How can breath and movement be used to heal from trauma? This is the question that guides my practice as a Masters-Level Mental Health Counselor Intern.

My Background

I am currently in the process of pursuing my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Florida State University. My aim as a future licensed therapist is to develop an integrative approach to therapy that begins with the foundations of functional breathing, movement, nutrition, and sleep. I am currently certified as a functional breathing coach, personal trainer, and yoga instructor.

As a certified functional breathing coach, I understand how modern sedentary life and patterns of chronic stress have changed our breathing in detrimental ways. Individuals who suffer from anxiety and trauma-based disorders are more likely to have dysfunctional breathing patterns.

How well we are breathing dictates how well we are managing our energy. How can the mind be well when the engine that powers cellular respiration and the production of energy is running inefficiently?

My belief as a counselor in training is that the mind will be in a much better position to resolve past trauma when the body that supports it is first nourished and restored to a functional standard.

How I Can Help You

I can help you by first developing a toolbox of skills to regulate the nervous system using "neural exercises" that can help you befriend, attend to, rewire, and reshape your nervous system.

Through functional breathing training, I can help you change the way you habitually breathe by using tailored exercises to improve breathing on a biochemical and biomechanical level. You will also learn how to read different state of autonomic arousal and how to use specific breathing protocols to regulate physiological state and bring your nervous system back to a state of autonomic balance.

Together we can work to develop a more flexible and resilient nervous system that will be equipped to take on the unpredictable challenges of life.
